So Much Beauty Here Around Us

There’s so much beauty here around us that sometimes, it is hard to take in all the many blessings which we are seeing. I have often felt so undeserving but that is just like our God who gives so extravagantly to His children! As I sit now to write this note to you out in my garden, I want so much to somehow help you focus your eyes on our Savior and Lord who continues to do beautiful things with us here at YWAM Tribal Winds.

Wedding Day

We worship our Lord through many events here: One way was through Danielle’s wedding in Hopiland. Danielle Romeyn, our Dutch descendant student, came and did our DTS 13 years ago and then stayed and continued to serve in Hopiland. She had become so close to the Hopi people that she ended up being mom to 2 Hopi girls, Faith and Trinity. And on this day, she was adopted into Ruby’s family. Ruby, as her Hopi mom, washed Danielle and Julio’s hair and interwove them together and Nita, as her Hopi sister, wrapped them in blankets and made a feast! Danielle always told us she wanted to marry a dark guy so it didn’t surprise us when she married Julio who came from Mexico 5 years ago. Julio had prepared a place for his bride in Scottsdale, Arizona, but Danielle’s 2nd home will be always in Hopiland and in Michigan where there will be another “pahana” (white) wedding.

Bible Translation

Oral Bible Translations (OBT): Yes, the University of the Nations has started here. This course (like DTS) is registered with the University of the Nations in YWAM. This OBT course has been started with the partnership of Wycliffe Bible Translators (So much so that they are giving scholarship funding for our students) and the SIU and they are both watching this class to see how this can be multiplied around the world. It is our great hope that this school would be successful and that there would be many thousands of people who will take this course in the future to go to all the tribes who need the Bible stories in their oral culture. I saw one Hopi lady listening to the students recite the Bible stories with tears coming down. Another Hopi man who works at the Hopi radio station, recorded the students and desires to put on the Story Hour on KUYI radio in the quiet month of December when there’s to be no drumming or loud noise as that is the month of rest for the earth.

Help Me To Glorify Your Name Today

I woke up this morning again saying, “Lord, help me to glorify your name today. What is it that I can do for you?” I realize again and again that when my life is over, I want to be able to say that I have loved people on this earth. I have not done it well sometimes; in fact, I could have, never mind what I could have. But, anyways, I believe birthday parties and having friends from all over the world is a part of that.

Highway Clean-Up

Ralph, who was on staff, used to clean up Leupp Road all by himself wearing a sign that says, “Do you know Jesus?” He then got us, YWAM Tribal Winds, to adopt this highway- 2 times a year with our City of Flagstaff. It was really fun to work together! We even get a sign by the City- yeah! This may help people find us better!

We are so grateful for this fantastic news!

* Hopi Tribe Economic Development Corporation just hired Lorenda as an Administrative Assistant! We just want to thank all those who supported our Hopi/ Apache student, Lorenda for DTS! She was homeless and living at Hope Cottage, Women’s shelter when I first met her and she did not have any of her kids with her but with your help, look how far she has come! The Hopi tribe owns properties in Flagstaff and Winslow etc. and she will help manage those accounts. Thank you, Lord!

* We were BLESSED to have Randy (and his wife, Juanita) Nyce come and visit with us after being gone for 20 years. Randy who helped out with Hopi youth and did all the daily chapels at Hopi Mission School.
