Life is Like a Bag of Stuffed Thrift Shop Items

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped.”

(Psalm 28:7)

Bag Sale

Not so long ago, I went to a thrift store where they were having a bag sale where one could stuff as many things into a shopping paper bag for five dollars

I had a choice to make, to stuff as much as possible with things I don’t need for it was easy to get greedy. I need not to take anything I would not need or give away. It feels like life is like that. I feel we have stuffed more than we can handle at times. Or, life has presented itself to us beyond what we think we could handle at times. Some Korean pastors showed up at our doors unannounced the other day. Some write “Dear Abbey” letters to us. Recently a young man wrote who had inherited expensive Hopi katchina dolls from his grandfather who had passed away and was asking us whether he should keep these dolls. We get letters from parents who want to present something to their child’s class and we also hear from home schooling associations regarding the Hopis and the Native Americans. We believe these things are also our ministry which our Father has given to us. We want to respond and educate and encourage people. But sometimes it feels like I’m wearing too many thrift shop clothes on top of another.

Exploration School from Taiwan

We’re now back on the Hopi Indian reservation with an Exploration School from Taiwan. Would you please pray with us as this is not a Christian school and we would love for these students and the staff to be able to see the beauty of Jesus while they are with us. These are mostly the leaders and/ or the well-to-do of their school. We have fourteen students this year. We get to freely share our testimonies of how our Lord brought our family to Hopiland and much more and yet they don’t seem to be intimidated. They are only with us for 8 days which is a drop in the bucket for their 80 days of travling. However, we know with your prayers that their hearts would be touched by our Lord! This is the second year that the wife of the school Principal has brought this school to us. I am praying that the things I already shared with her would awaken her to our Lord who is calling her to Himself. He is so near and desires to love her! Also, what was so beautiful was that our Hopi believers came and shared them last night. These Hopis don’t have to go out to the world, the world is coming to them! The world wants to know about the Hopi culture as they are an ancient people group, but many are often surprised to come and find that these people have turned to Christ. Humanity Exploration School from Taiwan here with us at YWAM Hopi & Flagstaff

The Navy SEAL Team

River-Rafting Trip and Southwest Tour

We had invited all of Will’s Navy Seal platoon buddies and their wives to come and go with us on San Juan rafting trip. After almost forty years, majority of the platoon guys have continued to get together yearly. Only three men came- Scott who is a PhD and a lawyer in Arizona, Mike who was the platoon “boss”, and Amos who was Will’s buddy. We know they and the others have been watching us these years. When Amos and his girlfriend stopped by and stayed with us last year, Amos had asked whether Will could marry them (Will has his license to do Jail ministries which also allows him to marry people) . And now, they have entered into a new gateway of covenant of marriage before the Lord! Amos’ wife who came to go on the river rafting trip got sick and so I also stayed back and we were able to welcome our Lord by reading the Word of God each morning. She has come back to her first love now. I believe this too is our ministry, to be the light and to minister to the Navy Seals and their wives.

Broken Tiles Replacement Work

The south side sidewalk and the upper patio area has been now torn out and concrete will be poured pretty soon. Thank you for those who gave to us- thank you so much! Just in case you want to know, no, we did not raise all that was needed, so it is not too late to send to YWAM and send to PO Box 30776, Flagstaff, AZ. 86003.

A couple from Barcelona, Spain

picked up Will to pick up our car after the river-rafting trip. They got to hear Will’s testimony as he blurts out his testimony every chance he gets whereas I try to be too sensitive and may miss opportunities. Will invited them to come over to spend a couple of nights at our home, but they didn’t make it. But some others from Italy came right to our YWAM facility in Hopiland because of a leaky tire. In the end, they asked us whether they could do anything for us. Will said, “no” but that we could do something for them and that we’d like to pray for them. The ladies were in tears. We got in a circle with five of them and Will prayed for a blessing over them for them to find the beauty path of our Lord and for protection over them and guidance for their future. Three ladies were wiping tears and the two men hugged us. I believe this too is our ministry, to entertain strangers.

First Responders’ Retreat

will be held here at YWAM retreat center on May 14 led by our friend from Gore Engineering firm in Flagstaff. Please pray that all those who come would sense the Lord’s peace here in this place.

I Felt Like Weeping

I felt like weeping until Father showed me that we are still standing!

As I sit outside in front of YWAM in Kykotsmovi, I have often been tempted to get depressed as I look all around this place and see the devastation of the enemy as I feel like we’re in the midst of a graveyard. Gentle Rain gift shop right across from us, Hopi Solar Power right next door, the mobile home behind us and the house across the street from us have all failed or have been abandoned. The Mobile home park next door which once thrived with many families have closed down and also Secakuku gift shop, a stone throw-away, at the junction of Hwy 2 and Hwy 262. Every time I drove near to our YWAM facility, I felt like weeping until Father showed me that if it was not for Him, this whole area on the main highway would be a ghost town. We are still standing with the help of our Lord in spite of destruction literally all around us and the Hopi people see this. Our God is more powerful than he that is in Hopi world indeed and Hopi people have seen it!

"Father, I rejoice in Your strength. HOW GREAT is my joy in the victories you give!"

(Psalm 21:1)

We’ve Been married 34 Years!

I thank our Lord who gave me a partner whom I could trust with all my heart to be faithful, and also to try to follow our awesome God with all his heart, mind and soul and spirit. Thank you, Will for helping to raise our three children to grow up to be a man and women of God; they all respect you so much. But, most importantly, thank you for loving them to honor our Lord all the days of their lives!
